This isn’t normally a walkthrough or FAQ kind of site/blog, but goddamn did this drive me nuts (on multiple levels), so hopefully this writeup can save someone else some heartache!
“Mission 22” in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is called “A Rogue Mega Barbaracle” and it’s in the third set of Mega Evolution boss battles you have to put up with. By this point you’ve been going up all sorts of buildings, you have your air double-jump thing, and in particular you had a recent rooftop battle…
…so when you see the indicator pointing you this way, you might be led to think that you need to scale this obstacle course and somehow get to the roof.
NO. It’s a trap. This ain’t it, chief.
Your destination is in the Bleu Sector. Fast travel to the Nouvéau Cafe (Truck No. 2) — or the Pokémon Center nearby — to get yourself close.
From here, turn around and look for the little inset area with stairs leading down.
Walk down the stairs and look for this entryway:
Turn right, and right again, and you’re basically there — you’ll just need a Pokémon that can burn the ice buildup into a bridge (Emboar here with Flamethrower worked for me).
And there you go! You’re ready to take on the Mega Barbaracle!
Be prepared for one of the worst designed fights in a game already filled with poorly-designed fights with bizarre controls. I was not prepared in the least with a grass critter that had the appropriate stats or moves or a Mega evolution, so it took me a million years of partial progression continuations. I don’t even really know what to tell you about how to dodge the fists or blasts; sometimes it seemed like being close and doing a quick turn would avoid the blast, and other times it didn’t work at all. It was not a good evening, I tell you what.
