I keep forgetting about this. Every time I see a post complaining that people use the spelling “FRIEZA” I think, “Wait… they do…?!!”

By the way, exactly what kind of “Maximum the Hormone” joke were you trying to make there. I think I completely missed it.

It amazes me that one time in Funimation dub during the first recap episode from VHS entitled “Eleventh Hour”, the closed captioning spelled his name, “Freeza”. I was like, “Wait, isn’t that name a Japanese?” Isn’t it irony?

Wow. It’s nerdiness abound I feel that you’re going to fly over to Tokyo, corner Akira Toriyama, and threateningly ask him, once and for all, “HOW DO YOU SPELL IT IN ENGLISH?”

I don’t understand why you always get worked up about that. I just simply treat it as “two spellings of the same word that are both correct”, like how there are American and British spellings of the same word, both being correct. But that’s just me.

In the Arabic dub, Freeza was named “Freezer”. I was new to Dragon Ball at that time and I thought he had ice powers 8P.

But yeah, I started pronouncing “Frieza” as “Fryza” thanks to the podcast and the D.O.N. episode. Before that, I used to read it “Freeza” normaly and used the “i” spelling in search engines.

It always bothered me that “Frieza”‘s brother was “Cooler”. Recently I get told by a dub fan that Coola should be “Cooler”, because “that’s how you spell Frieza’s brother’s name”. Without any irony.

I became a fan due to the dub, and back then, I always thought it was spelled Freeza. My friend and I were sort of taken back when we saw some of the first released VHS covers back then to see it spelled Frieza. I thought it was a typo. To this day, I keep pronouncing it “Fry-ez-a,” which lead to the statements such as, “He’ll easily fry you with the Fry-ez-a beam.”

Wait, I just thought of something. We all know Dr. Freeze from Batman, right? His name, before he became that, was Dr. Victor FRIEs (pronounced Freeze). I’m not trying to justify the spelling (it’s still dumb), but maybe some FUNImation employee was a DC fan or something. If that is the case…it still does not make sense. Freeza does not fire blasts of cold or have anyone frozen.

I don’t know. It sort of just came to me, so I might be taking it off track.

I reiterate what I said on Twitter, “Yes, yes, yes!! I love it!”. However, I have feeling some on DB Wikia will find a way to delete this. ;p

I wish I had a little more time to actually throw out my thoughts, but they’re basically the same as yours (go figure). One thing, because I’m an ass, you messed up the katakana for “misutaa”. Instead of extending the vowel, you used the kanji “ichi” (ミスタ一). It should be ミスター. I may be the only one that caught it, but I thought you might want to know.

Yeah, I totally feel you on this. I’ve seen people constantly misspell his name as ‘Freiza’ and it makes me want to kill something.
